The action of the game Not for Broadcast PC Download takes place in an alternative, dystopian version of the Eighties of the last century, in which social unrest is on the agenda, which makes the risk of a revolution is very high. During the game, we play a character working in a TV studio as a cleaner. As a result of an unexpected turn of events, the protagonist joins the National Nightly News team. From now on, he will decide what message should flow from television news, and as a result – influence public opinion. The choices we make will determine whether his station will be censored or will choose to publicize truth.
In Not for Broadcast PC Download, we see the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). During the game, we sit at the professional editing equipment that we operate, manually using various switches, inserting cassettes into VCRs and watching the effects of our actions on kinescope screens. On our shoulders rests everything that is connected with the functioning of television news. So, we primarily deal with the selection of topics, and we also decide how they will be presented – we choose the content of the information strips and camera shots, or we decide on the censorship of curses. We also have to spend some airtime on ads, because the income from their emission feeds our bank account.
In Not For Broadcast, two interesting treatments were decided. First, the role of the interface is played by objects located on the protagonist’s desk; in addition to editing equipment, we will find on it, among other things, a phone that serves the hero to communicate with colleagues. Secondly, the scenes from the TV were made in the form of FMV inserts.
