A Tale of Paper is an arcade game, the action of which was presented from the side. For its creation is responsible for the Spanish independent studio Open House Games, for which it is the debut title. The platform game was awarded the fifth edition of the PlayStation Talents Awards in 2020.
A Tale of Paper is a classic side-scroller platformer, in which we move through locations filled with all sorts of traps, ruthless roomba vacuums and environmental puzzles. In addition to the stages of skill and requiring logical thinking, there were also quieter moments in which the gameplay is closer to the so-called walking simulators.
The game boasts quite original mechanics, diversifying the fun. The fragile hero of the game can turn his character into a frog, a paper airplane or a bird, which allows you to overcome more difficult obstacles and get to seemingly inaccessible places. But transformation also comes with limitations. For example, as a frog, you can jump higher, but on the other hand – this form makes it impossible to walk and run. The use of origami mechanics is an essential part of the gameplay in a Tale of Paper.
The graphic design of a Tale of Paper is fully three-dimensional and presents a decent level, although it differs qualitatively from the best representatives of the 2.5 D platformer genre.the game is distinguished by the appearance of a paper hero and the dark and bizarre climate native to Inside and Little Nightmares.
